Make me pretty

Even though his character in John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus claims to be an albino, Reg Vermue, aka Gentleman Reg, is not. Pale yes, but albino, no. A case for never judging a book by its cover, the songs of Gentleman Reg are far from pale and washed out. Having spent time working with the likes of The Hidden Cameras, Final Fantasy, Broken Social Scene and back-up work for Sufjan Stevens, certainly amounts to a veritable rainbow of musical colours to play with, and his solo work has always been just as diverse.

Reg is about to release "You Can't Get It Back", the first single from his new album, Jet Black. Fans of his crisp pop styling will have to settle for the single for now, as the full album release is scheduled for early next year. I know, I'm bummed out about it, too. But, to whet your appetite even further, and to familiarize yourself with his back catalogue, Arts & Crafts (who've recently signed Reg up to their roster) are releasing a nice package called Little Buildings, featuring some of Reg's finest work from his previous releases. Little Buildings will be out November 11th. You can hear "You Can't Get It Back" now at Reg's Myspace site, and keep your eyes open for Jet Black sometime in 2009.
