There's a new EP to add to your collection of Stars recordings (you do have all their albums, right?): Sad Robots was quietly released digitally on the first of the month via a new website dedicated to the EP, and will be available physically on their upcoming tour (you can also opt to buy a physical version from the website, but unfortunately there's no discount if you want the digital now, also). The band will be heading out on the road with Irish band Bell X1 through September, and Think About Life opening on the October dates. The EP features a live version of "Going, Going, Gone" from back in the Nightsongs day, which is also available as a free download. All in all, there isn't anything jaw-dropping on Sad Robots but I do really like "Undertow" ("Heart"-like), and it's counterpoint "A Thread Cut With A Carving Knife", which has so many layers of feedback guitar that it literally cuts through the air like an aggressive buzz saw. That's a side to Stars I like to hear more often.
Stars are up for the thrid annual Polaris Music Prize, being handed out in Toronto on Spetember 29th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Stars will unfortunatey not be in attendance, but they'll be participating via a live video feed that night.
