Being here

I'm genuinely excited about Oceans Will Rise, the third album from Montreal's The Stills, and their first for Arts & Crafts. I'm calling it "old school enthusiasm" because for the first time in a looooooong time, I'm going to hear an album for the first time on the day its actually released. It's kind of novel, in a weird, backwards sort of way.

The first single, "Being Here" has been available as a free download (along with another album track "Roobios/Palm Wine Drinkard") for awhile now, and I just cannot stop listening to it--whenever it comes on, I have to play it a couple times in a row. It's not hard to pinpoint just what it is about this power pop beauty that has enthralled me; but it has spirit, vitality and a genuine excitement that is really missing from a lot of what I hear on a regular basis. I know that the band has said that making Oceans Will Rise has revitalized them and given them their passion for music back, so I'm hoping that when I get the chance to hear this album later today, some of that energy and power comes through the speakers and charges up my life as I get ready to head back for another year of school/work.
