If you go back far enough in the QBiM archives, you'll find a little mention about a duo going by the name Ivy League, who released a cool version of Arcade Fire's "Crown Of Love" a while back. After having mentioned them (and having been asked to take the offending cover mp3 down) the band sort of disappeared from view... until recently.
It seems that a 60's UK pop group who were also called Ivy League decided to start playing again, thus forcing Ryland Blackinton and Alex Suarez to rechristen themselves This Is Ivy League. As the name might suggest, this is prep-pop of the highest and finest order. It's like a blend of classic 50s vocal harmonies and indie/twee/pop sensibilities, all dressed in a fine cashmere v-neck sweater and a pair of of trousers so straight-legged you could use them to hang and level your collection of diploma.
This Is Ivy League, the band's self-titled debut came out back in April on TwentySeven Records, and is worth checking out if you're a fan Belle & Sebastian, Simon & Garfunkel, classic pop, or just plain good music.
