Chris Walla explains it all for you

Actually, there's no real explanation here; I borrowed the title of this post from a regular column that appeared in early issues of Under The Radar magazine, because I connected to the name of Chris Walla's new solo album, Field Manual. Exactly what the album is a manual for it up for debate. How to write an indie rock album that doesn't suck? Field Manual could be a colour-by-numbers template for aspiring young bands. The fine art of music production? You could take lessons from this guy, let me tell you. How to leave your audience wondering if the new Death Cab For Cutie album is going to be anywhere as near as good at this? There'll be debate about this point I'm sure, but while we wait for the new DCFC to drop later this year, Field Manual is a welcome diversion from one of Portland, Oregon's finest musicians.

Another of QBiM's recent favourite albums was released yesterday: British Sea Power's Do You Like Rock Music? is available as we speak, or as I type and as you read.

If you're thinking of heading to Glastonbury for this summer's festival, you'll want to know that it appears Kings Of Leon (Friday 27 June), Jay-Z (Saturday 28 June), and The Verve (Sunday 29 June) will be headlining the three-day event. Which day do you think I'd be attending, if I wanted to spend a day in the English countryside knee-deep in mud? As my Scottish pals in the Bay City Rollers would say: "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y-NIGHT!!"

The Acorn are/were SPIN's Artist of the Day. We at QBiM considered them one of our Artists of 2007.
