Suit Yourself

It's been a couple of months since Shout Out Louds released their latest album, Our Ill Wills, and, although I mentioned the release of the lead-off single "Tonight I Have To Leave It" awhile back, I've been relatively quiet about its parent album. I'm going to rectify that right now.

It's a slow grower, and in its own sweet, passive way, Our Ill Wills is turning out to be one of my very favourite records as of late. The odd thing is, I'm realizing just how much I like it one track at a time via the shuffle mode of my iPod. Over the last few weeks, I've been pleasantly surprised by tracks like "Time Left For Love", "Suit Yourself" and the (semi-) titular "Ill Wills". They seem to pop up in the random order of playback just when I need a good dose of indie-pop, and often require a repeat play. It happened just a few hours ago, actually, when I was at the gym, and getting ready to call it quits a bit early, when "South America" came on and gave me that little kick in the butt I needed to finish the treadmill. I had listened to the whole album all the way through when I first got it and really didn't pay too much attention to it truthfully; now as I'm writing this and listening to Ill Wills as a whole, I think I did them a disservice, one I'm glad to be rectifying.

Hey look, I used rectifying (or it's past tense) twice in this post, three times if you count it's use in this sentence. I don't think this really means anything but I wasn't sure how else to end this post.

My Bloody Valentine may give us a blistering Christmas treat this year with word that there's new material on it way. Thanks to Hate Something Beautiful for the heads up.
