New Jason Collett: Here's To Being Here

Jason Collett is like a stealth bomber. He flies into the airspace of your brain without you even being aware of his presence and drops a precious bomb into your cerebral cortex that doesn't explode as much as it cracks open and multiplies in size and intensity until its taken control of your senses and thought processes, blocking out any possibility if getting things done. Resistance is futile; surrender and let yourself go.

He's releasing his new secret weapon, Here's To Being Here in February '08, but Arts & Crafts have already started their aerial assault with a couple of crackerjack tracks. "Out Of Time" is 2 minutes of pure joy: at times it has the swagger of late 70s disco, the down home goodness of bluesy garage rock, and all the power of a live performance in a sweaty little bar where the patrons sit on the artists as opposed to in front of them. "Charlyn, Angel of Kensington" is a jazzy little number, loose-limbed and funky. The majority of the album was recorded live off the floor with his touring band, Paso Mino, which accounts for the immediacy of the playing.
