Not one to rest on his laurels too long, Dan Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers, Swan Lake etc.) and Sydney Vermont (they're in love, you know?) have recorded a lovely little 13 song album under the name Hello, Blue Roses. Bejar describes the music thus: “When I listen to the sound of it, I hear European pastoral music butting up against a harsh 80s reality.”
“Dan supports every strange idea I have ever had,” says Vermont, “and then we craft it into something to our liking. We hear different things in the songs and try to bring both visions into it, which involves a lot of trust and generosity, because we are very different. It makes for an overall eclectic sound, which still has its own organic logic.”
The self-titled album is being released on Chicago indie label Locust Music on January 22, 2008. You'll be able to smell the Blue Roses before that: Hello, Blue Roses will release a tour-only split 7” with Frog Eyes on Absolutely Kosher in December and a split 7” with Starless & Bible Black on Locust released digitally around the holidays. Like the tour single, this release will be strictly limited, available first by mail-order off of the Locust Music website.
