the Art of Bronx Cheerleader

Bronx Cheerleader are a St. Catharines, Ontario based band who've been referred to as Canada's answer to the Shins. That's some high praise, but their delicate melodies and acoustic ambiance very much warrant the comparison.

The band released their debut album, Tough Guy Cliches, back in 2005, and are working on some new material to be released soon. Do yourself a favour and search the album out. There's elements of Elliott Smith in the mix (whom they dedicated the track "Racing Time" to), and definitely a DIY sense of fun to their music as well as their product--Tough Guy Cliches is released on local label Yummy Recordings, run by Bronx Cheerleader guitarist Joe Lapinski.

As it turns out, I went to elementary school with Sauder, the drummer. He used to pick on me sometimes, but it's cool. We're Facebook buddies now.

The video for their song "The Art of Dancing" recently made its appearance on YouTube. Imagine Pod commercial meets arthouse movie:
