The QBiM jury is still out as to what makes Akron/Family so gosh darn popular and interesting among the blogeratti. Surely, their musical style, which is to combine multiple styles and sonic textures, is not a new concept; their image as a down-home, innovative, very American sounding band has been aped by many other up-and-comers; they have scraggly beards.
Yet, for all these (seemingly) checklist-able attributes, Akron/Family remains a compelling proposition, and for me at least, an undefinable one. I've been hesitant to even blog about them because I didn't know exactly what I wanted to say about them (which is evidenced in this nonsensical post), other than this: listen to them and see for yourself.
