Swimming like a needle in the haystack of the sea

Nathan Lawr and the Minotaurs make music that is at turns muscular and athletic, then supple and feminine, all in the same track at times. It's fitting that their most recent release is named A Sea Of Tiny Lights because that dichotomy is captured in those few words--the power of light piercing the darkness, though in the form of delicate and fragile-looking twinkling stars.

Lyrically, Lawr is all over the board, referencing the story of Jim Loney, who was kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq ("Footsteps"), to Gus Van Sant's Columbine movie, Elephant ("There's A Devil"). Musically, Lawr carries the tradition of Canadian songwriters like Andrew Cash, Jim Cuddy and Greg Keillor while expanding his sound to encompass more than just country-rock.
