Half Nelson & Broken Social Scene

Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson.

As much as I love movies, I don't often find myself with too much time to keep up with the latest releases. I've only just had the opportunity to sit down and watch Half Nelson, about a teacher whose drug habit begins encroaching on his professional life, and blurs the boundaries between the teacher/student relationship. As an educator myself, I found the movie interesting on many levels, but as a blogger and a music fan, I was engrossed by the soundtrack. Broken Social Scene donated tracks to the producers, one of which is a version of "Lover's Spit" sung by Feist. Try as I might tonight, I haven't been able to track that version down anywhere, since it doesn't appear on the official movie soundtrack. If anyone out there knows of where this beautiful song can be found, please let me know. For now, here's the original version, as recorded for BSS's 2003 album, You Forgot It In People.

It's on Beehives, a b-sides album that came out not long after YFIP. That's where that sorta remix of Almost Crimes in the closing credits comes from too.

And so it is. And so it is now available to you here, too.
