UK punk rockers The Cribs strike an increasingly familiar looking pose; like their fellow countrymen The View, they're leading the charge to fill the still-empty void left by the exit of The Libertines. The Cribs have wasted no time messing around with the middlemen though, their new album is being released by Warner Bros. in July. Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever, besides being one of the daftest names of an album ever, is produced by Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and includes a special guest appearance by Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
Impressive celebrity friends aside, there's more to The Cribs than appears on their bio sheet. Their new single, "Men's Needs" is a corker and not at all what I expected from them based on what I read--more pop than punk. Their official site links to a couple of older tracks, the best of which is "Another Number".
