It's been quite a year for Bishop Allen and their fans. No less than twelve EPs (one of which was actually a full-length live album) released, one per month, at the bargain price of $5 a pop, all of them full of crackerjack tunes to keep you boppin' until the next month's release. Just in time for the close of the year, on December 31 Bishop Allen made the last two EPs (November and December) available via their website. As always, there's a free track from each EP available for download:Bishop Allen, "Tea For Two"
Bishop Allen, "Calendar"
Now that the year-long project is over, speculation can start: When will the next album come out, and what will be on it? In the meantime, I'll satisfy myself with the ever-changing sequence of the "dream" Bishop Allen album that iTunes lets me make. Here's one tracklisting I came up with, that actually plays together very well (month in brackets):
01. Clementines (October)
02. Last Chance America (December)
03. The Monitor (March) [my favourite song of 2006]
04. The Same Fire (June)
05. Click Click Click Click (July)
06. Corazon (January)
07. Don Christopher (November)
08. Like Castanets (September)
09. Queen of the Rummage Sale (February)
10. Butterfly Nets (May)
11. Vain (February)
12. Chinatown Bus (May)
13. Tea For Two (November)
14. Central Booking (February)
15. The History of Excuses (March)
16. The News From Your Bed (February)
17. Fireflies (September)
18. Begin To See (September)
19. Luck Of Mine (July)
20. Flight 180 (April)
21. I Get Along (December)
22. Winter Coat (March)
23. Calendar (December)
You Ain't No Picasso asked which track or EP stood out for you this year, so for this post, if anyone has a Bishop Allen 2006 playlist worth sharing, please do so in the comments.
