L Is for Live

Fuck K. We don't need that shit. And plus, what starts with K besides KoRn, and we ain't messin' around with those guys - we get enough C&D as it is.

Regardless, two favorite Q,BIM bands recently put out some interesting live material. The first of these is the best soul/house/psychedelic band around, TV on the Radio, whose producer was recently mentioned as one of our collective favorites. The set is an interesting one, with everything acoustic and the vocals much more prominent than on their latest. If you want to hear the full thing ("Wash the Day," "Young Liars," and "Province" - featured below - were played, and then there's an...interesting interview), head on over to the always rawkin' GIMME TINNITUS. While the other two songs are unimpressive (not bad, though), "Province" is excellent and you can hardly notice the lack of Bowie on the back-up vox.

The other Q,BIM fave who hooked us up with a live cut is London's Lurch. I did a piece on them back when I was still running my old (kentucky?) blog, and they finally hooked me up with a live cut, pretty much 'cos I had been begging them for awhile - their sound seemed perfect for a live setting. If you weren't familiar, their sound is kind of like "Good Weekend"-style Art Brut: catchy, in your face, and very old school feeling punk. This live cut isn't of the best quality (and that cowbell is loud), but it's pretty impressive from what I can hear, with Toby's vocals growling on top of a catchy bassline and loud, punk-esque guitars. If you want to read a full concert review, head on over to Our Last Quarterstance, where a friend of the band did a completely un-biased review of their November 25th show at RocSoc.

Also, head on over to OLQ to check out Jim's latest piece there, which is on the classic 90s band Cinerama!
